Have you ever returned to a book, a class, or something you learned before—and suddenly understood it more deeply?
That’s happening to me right now.
I’m taking Spirit Daughter’s 12-week Call It In course for the second time. Although I took it last year, this time I’m absorbing it differently. Familiar lessons are giving me more to sit with, and things I heard before are reaching me in new ways.
Over the past two and a half years, meditation and moon rituals have become meaningful parts of my life, alongside journaling and learning about astrology.
I don’t know exactly why this second time through the course feels different. Perhaps another year of living has given me a new perspective. Or maybe I’m making more room to listen.
Either way, I’m grateful I returned.
My Quiet Time Before Sunrise
One of my favorite places to be is outside beneath the predawn sky. Before the appointments, messages, and responsibilities of the day begin, I sit quietly.
Some mornings, I meditate. Other days, I write in my journal. Often, I simply breathe and watch the sky change.
While some mornings bring clarity, others bring tears. I’m learning to give myself time for both, without expecting every morning to feel the same.
After forty years behind the nail table, I’m used to making time for other people. These quiet mornings are time I make for myself.
When a Familiar Lesson Reaches You Differently
Jill Wintersteen, the woman behind Spirit Daughter, has been an important teacher in this journey. Through her workbooks, podcast, Instagram, and the classes I’ve taken, I’ve found questions to bring into my everyday life.
Where am I putting my energy? What matters to me, and what am I ready to release?
Taking Call It In again reminds me that hearing a lesson and absorbing it can happen at different times.
This time, I bring new experiences, different questions, and a little more understanding of myself. As a result, familiar ideas are beginning to settle in more deeply.
I even have an Alexa reminder that says, “Remember to do and say all things with love.”
Although I try to carry that into my work and my relationships, I’m also paying more attention to whether I offer that same love to myself.
What I’m Learning About Astrology—and Myself
My astrological Big Three are Aquarius Sun, Scorpio Moon, and Leo rising.
Learning about my chart has given me more to explore beyond my Sun sign. In addition, I’ve been learning about Venus retrograde, Saturn retrograde, and reflecting on my second Saturn return.
At 58, I’m asking what I want this next chapter to feel like. I still love doing nails, creating, and connecting with my clients. At the same time, I want to be thoughtful about where I put my energy.
Along with journaling, astrology offers me another way to reflect on those questions.
For example, learning that the Moon moves through the zodiac signs approximately every two and a half days sparked my curiosity. Following the lunar cycle has since become a reminder to pause and check in with myself.
Meditation and Moon Rituals: Making Room for Peace
The full moon is a meaningful time in my practice. During this time, I sit outside, meditate, and consider what I’m ready to release.
Sometimes it’s an expectation I’ve held too tightly. At other times, it’s being hard on myself. Then I think about what I want to welcome: peace, clarity, confidence, or gratitude.
Spirit Daughter’s “Return to Your Heart” article feels especially meaningful right now. It brings me back to a question I’m learning to ask more often: What would treating myself with love look like today?
Sometimes, that means enjoying a quiet morning. At other times, opening my journal helps me sort through my thoughts. Talking with someone who understands can also bring comfort.
Together, these moments give me time to notice what I need and carry that awareness into the rest of my day.
Still Learning After Forty Years Behind the Nail Table
One thing I love about my work is how much we learn from one another.
We share stories, encouragement, and little discoveries that make life better. For instance, a client might mention a book or a practice that opens a door for someone else.
For this reason, I wanted to share this part of my life here in my Diary of a Nail Tech.
Thank you, Jill, for creating resources that have become part of my quiet mornings and personal growth.
And to anyone finding their own way through a season of change: I hope you find moments that help you feel connected to yourself and the people who care about you.
What is something you’ve revisited—a book, a class, or a practice—that meant more to you the second time?
I’d love to hear in the comments.
With love,
LINDA
